Understanding the Different Types Of LDL Cholesterol
Cholesterol can be either good or bad and the amount of each type of cholesterol that you have in your body can make a real difference when it comes to developing heart disease and atherosclerosis. Of the different types of cholesterol, the types of LDL cholesterol are the biggest enemy of the human body as they contain as much as between seventy-five and eighty percent of cholesterol which in turn results in plaque formation. That means that the arteries become narrower and thus the body is unable to receive enough blood because the blood flow becomes blocked.
Greater Chance of Heart Disease
Also, different types of LDL cholesterol are produced in the liver and then transferred to vital parts of the body including the tissues, muscles as well as organs and more importantly, the heart. Thus, keeping the different types of LDL cholesterol low should be your primary concern since a high level could increase the chances of your suffering from heart disease.
To calculate the different types of LDL cholesterol in the body you may need to use a formula in which the total cholesterol, and triglycerides as well as HDL are calculated. Typically, if the different types of LDL cholesterol are less than one hundred mg/dl you won’t need to worry about your cholesterol levels while anything above one hundred mg/dl is time for you to start to think seriously about controlling your LDL cholesterol levels.
In the case of another type of LDL cholesterol, which is the very low-density lipoproteins or VLDL, which are the lipoproteins that transport cholesterol to organs from the liver, you need to be more careful since they are heavy as compared to the other types of LDL cholesterol. Very low-density cholesterol is in fact closely linked to heart disease as well as atherosclerosis.
Another type of LDL cholesterol is the one known as Lp (a) cholesterol that is a variation of LDL cholesterol. When the level of Lp (a) cholesterol rises, the patient is at a greater risk of prematurely developing fatty deposits in their body’s arteries. What’s more, this type of LDL cholesterol has not yet been fully understood though it is assumed that it interacts with certain substances that are found in the walls of the arteries and this interaction results in fatty deposit build-up.
After studying the different types of LDL cholesterol, it has been found that LDL cholesterol is a major reason why a person can be affected by atherosclerosis and when the blood also clots and then blocks the arteries, it is one more reason why the person can suffer from strokes and even heart attacks.
